how each week works
you'll never be stuck on your own 🫶
one tutorial a week, played live so we all make together - then it's yours to keep forever, so you can pause, rewatch and go at your own pace.
your weekly tutorial premieres
around 45 minutes, filmed by kit with every step shown up close. watch it live with everyone on the monday, or catch up whenever suits - it's yours to keep forever.
make your gift
shape, stitch, bake or emboss in your own time that week. budget about an hour to watch and an hour or two to make - the clay weeks need a night to dry in between, so it's two cuppas rather than one!
live q&a with kit
genuinely live, every week. cracks, wonky stitches, mystery lumps - bring them all and kit will show you how to rescue them. recorded if you can't make it.
share it in the group chat
the cosiest corner of the internet. everyone's making the same thing as you at the same time - so you can post the wonky one and get told it's lovely.
this is what it actually looks like
no studio, no special kit - a table, a brush and about twenty minutes.
the honest version: nobody's first one is perfect, and that's the entire point of doing it inside a supportive little craft community, all making the same thing at the same time. kit will show you how to fix the cracks, and the group chat will tell you it looks lovely - because it will.
the plan
week by week 🗓️
1week one - air dry clay▾
we start gently! you'll learn how to condition, roll and shape air dry clay, and finish your photo frame by sunday. by the end of week one you'll have made an actual thing with your actual hands.
2week two - sewing▾
needle and thread! threading up, simple stitches, and how to get neat edges on your fabric coasters. no sewing machine needed - if you can tie a knot, you're in.
3week three - polymer clay▾
a new clay with new tricks - conditioning, colour mixing and baking it in your normal oven for a glossy, permanent finish on your egg tray. this is where things start looking shop-bought (but better, because they're not).
4week four - embossing▾
the showstopper! you'll learn to emboss metal sheet - drawing designs that turn into raised, catch-the-light patterns on your match box case - then wrap everything ready for the tree. four presents, wrapped and ready by mid november, with a whole month to spare. imagine!

👋 hello, i'm kit!
when i was about three, my mum found an old blue box and started saving things in it for me to make with - cardboard, sponges, random bits of packaging. we called it the making box, and making anything and everything became my whole world.
then life got busy, and like so many of us i just… stopped. school, uni, london. i really missed having a creative outlet - so in 2022 i started the making box to help people find calm, joy and inspiration through creativity again. no pressure, no perfection, just making!
gifted is the thing i wish had existed when i started again: a friendly deadline, a group of people making alongside you, and someone showing you every single step. i can't wait to make with you!

i've never made anything before. is this really for me?▾
it's who it's built for! every make starts from “here's how you hold it” - nothing you're supposed to already know. around 274,000 people follow along on instagram and 188,000 on tiktok, and honestly? most of them have never made a single one of the things they've saved. gifted is for exactly those people.
what will the materials cost me?▾
around £50 for all six makes if your cupboard is completely empty, and less if you've already got paint and brushes.
here's the bit worth knowing though: that's not £50 you use up. the four gifts use a fraction of it. clay comes in 1kg blocks, paint comes in sets, a reel of thread lasts years - you can't buy a gift's worth of any of it. so you're really buying a little craft cupboard, and you'll come out the other side of november with most of it still on the shelf. £12.50 a gift, and everything in the section further up this page is made from what's left over.

do i need a sewing machine? or a kiln?▾
no and no. week two is hand sewing - if you can tie a knot, you're in. the air dry clay dries on your kitchen side overnight, and the polymer clay bakes in your normal oven at a normal temperature. no special kit, nothing that needs a shed.
what if i can't make the live bits?▾
completely fine. the tutorials premiere on a monday but they're yours to keep forever, so watch at 11pm on a wednesday if that's your window. the q&as are recorded and posted in the group chat too. the live-ness is a bonus, not a requirement.
what if i fall behind, or i'm away for a week?▾
you won't be locked out of anything. the videos stay yours, the group chat stays open for the full four weeks, and people will absolutely be finishing week two in week three - that's normal and nobody minds. the mid-november deadline is there to be useful, not strict.
i'm not in the uk - can i still do it?▾
yes - about a third of the waitlist is already in the us, so you'd be in good company! the materials list has us links next to every single item, and none of it is specialist: air dry clay, polymer clay (sculpey or fimo), a needle and thread, mod podge. all of it is on amazon and in michaels.
the tutorials are yours to watch whenever you like, so the time difference doesn't touch those at all. the live q&as run at 7pm uk - 2pm eastern, 11am pacific - and every one is recorded and posted in the group chat, so if that's the middle of your workday you can watch back and leave your questions in the chat. kit answers them there too.
you'll be charged in pounds and your bank converts it. the group chat is whatsapp, which works the same wherever you are.
